Közhelyek nélkül nagyon nehéz a szerelemről beszélni és a Rómeó és Júliáról talán semmi meglepőt nem lehet mondani. Nincs is mit szépíteni rajta. Lehet varázslatosan újra felfesteni vagy rángatni a földön, talán a legfontosabb, hogy valamiféle személyes szemszöget találjunk. Féltékenykedve hallgattam azokat a színházcsinálókat, akik legendaként meséltek arról a korszakról, mikor egy előadás erejét az adta, hogy valami ellen együtt harcoltak. Természetesen, ha akarjuk ma is adott minden ehhez, hol így, hol úgy. Mégis mi ellen kell ma harcolnia Shakespearnek? Előadásunk nem tiszteli a darabot, sem a kort, amelyben élünk, sőt, igyekszik saját magát sem tisztelni. Nem Rómeó és Júlia, nem előadás, reméljük, nem is lehet majd annak tekinteni.

Este foarte greu să vorbești despre dragoste fără a te folosi de clișee, și nu cred că poți spune ceva nou despre Romeo și Julieta. Nu are rost să ne amăgim în această privință. Textul poate fi pus în scenă într-un mod fermecător sau aruncat în adâncuri, dar cel mai important lucru este găsirea unei perspective personale. Îi ascultam cu invidie pe creatorii de teatru care povesteau despre epoca aproape legendară în care forța unui spectacol era dată de lupta cot la cot împotriva unui lucru anume. Dacă vrem să facem acest lucru astăzi, avem toate uneltele necesare. Totuși, împotriva cui ar trebui să lupte Shakespeare în zilele noastre? Spectacolul nostru nu respectă piesa de teatru care îi stă la bază, nici epoca în care trăim, mai mult, nu se prea respectă nici pe el însuși. Nu este piesa Romeo și Julieta, nu este un spectacol, sperăm că nici nu va fi receptat astfel.

It’s very hard to talk about love without using clichés, and I don’t think you can say anything new or surprising about Romeo and Julieta. There is no point in fooling ourselves in this regard. It can be re-enacted in a charming way, or dragged through the mud, however the most important thing would be to find a personal approach. I listened with envy to those theater creators who spoke of the legendary era in which the strength of a performance was given by the joint efforts exerted against something. Of course, if we want to do this today, we have all the necessary tools at our disposal, one way or another. However, what exactly should Shakespeare fight against today? Our show does not respect the play on which it is based, nor the era in which we live, moreover, it tries not to respect itself too much either. It’s not a Romeo and Juliet, it’s not a performance, we hope it won’t be perceived as such either.

Egy új világrendről álmodó fiatal egyetemista, Artúr, tájékozódási pontokat keres szülei és nagyszülei szellemi örökségében. De amint nekivág a feladatnak, falakba ütközik, mert azokat az értékeket, amelyekből merítene, az idő elsorvasztotta: az egymásra torlódott generációs reflexek közt a hagyomány már nevetséges, a szabadság rutin, a lázadás pedig divatcikk. Mrozek Tangója nem csupán egy családi dráma groteszk víziója, hanem egy társadalmi szerkezet miniatűr másolata is, egy világállapot diagnózisa. Egy civilizációs stádium, ahol a megváltás-fantáziák és a szabadság gondolata mögött alig maradt valami, ahol a radikalizmus ugyanoda tér vissza: az erőhöz. Mitől lesz valódi egy új világrend? Lehet-e erkölcsös az emberi természet ellenében? És ha már minden érték elfáradt – vajon egy új világ vajúdása zajlik, vagy csupán az örök ismétlés keserű rituáléját játsszuk újra?

Artúr, un tânăr student universitar care visează la o nouă ordine mondială, caută îndrumare în moștenirea intelectuală a părinților și bunicilor săi. Dar, de îndată ce pornește în călătoria sa, se lovește de un zid, deoarece valorile pe care ar vrea să se bazeze au fost erodate de timp: în mijlocul reflexelor acumulate de generații, tradiția a devenit ridicolă, libertatea o rutină, iar rebeliunea o tendință vestimentară. Tango-ul lui Mrozek nu este doar o viziune grotescă a dramei unei familii, ci și o replică în miniatură a unei structuri sociale, un diagnostic al stării de fapt al lumii. Este o etapă a civilizației în care nu a mai rămas mare lucru din iluziile salvationiste și din ideea de libertate, una în care radicalismul se reîntoarce la același punct de plecare: puterea. Ce anume transformă noua ordine mondială în realitate? Poate fi ea morală dacă este împotriva naturii umane? Și dacă toate valorile au fost deja epuizate, asistăm la nașterea unei lumi noi sau nu facem altceva decât să reluăm un amar ritual al repetiției eterne?

Artúr, a young university student dreaming of a new world order, searches for guidance in the intellectual legacy of his parents and grandparents. But as soon as he sets out on his quest, he hits a wall, because the values he would draw on have been eroded by time: amid the accumulated reflexes of generations, tradition has become ridiculous, freedom a routine, and rebellion a fashion statement. Mrozek’s Tango is not just a grotesque vision of a family drama, but also a miniature replica of a social structure, a diagnosis of the state of the world. It is a stage of civilization where there is little left behind the fantasies of salvation and the idea of freedom, where radicalism returns to the same place: power. What makes a new world order real? Can it be moral if it goes against human nature? And if all values have been exhausted, are we witnessing the birth of a new world, or are we merely replaying a bitter ritual of eternal repetition?
