In her first solo exhibition, Rebecca Dumitrescu Prodan invites viewers to witness a deeply personal journey—a reflection of her life, her roots, and her evolution as an artist. Forest Dwarfs || RONE Solo Show

Pe când locuiam in Franța, în anii 90, am aflat de o organizație care ,,răpea” piticii din grădinile oamenilor și îi ,,elibera” în păduri. Mă întreb ce s-a întâmplat cu acei pitici ,,eliberați”? …Cum s-au metamorfozat? … Sunt mai fericiți acolo, în libertate?

În 1992, la Paris, am desenat primii pitici în tuș negru, iar in 1993 am continuat cu o noua serie in culori tempera. Dupa o perioada relativ lunga, am reluat aceasta tema realizand primii pitici pe panza, pe care i-am expus la Berlin in 2011. În expoziția de față am încercat să dezvolt un dialog între mai multe tipuri de rezolvări plastice, cu moduri subtile de trecere de la unele la altele, iar prin elemente comune să dau o unitate acestei noi serii de lucrări. Piticii reprezinta pentru mine o sursă inepuizabilă, prin care pot accede la diverse universuri picturale.

Motivul Piticilor este o încercare de abordare dezinhibată a unei teme atemporale. În spatele imaginii aparent comice de bufoni se ascunde complexitatea naturii lor și inerenta tristețe provenită din faptul că nu sunt înțeleși. Ei ne sfidează expunându-și nuditatea într-un gest de frondă. Aceste trupuri ,,distorsionate” m-au fascinat întotdeauna. Piticii ne vorbesc despre o lume care se descompune cu zambetul pe buze; ei se situează la frontiera realului cu imaginarul și devin un instrument de debanalizare a cotidianului. Am folosit anormalitatea trupurilor lor și ca o replică la perfecțiunea corpului omenesc în arta antică și renascentistă, fără a încerca însă a o devaloriza. In acest demers creativ, pentru mine rămân insa prioritare jocul și multiplele lui fațete.
