The artist Andreea Vlăduț and the Swiss composer Cyrill Lim invite you to participate in the English-conducted radio-art laboratory „In the Blink of an Ear: Craiova Frequencies,” a new attempt to revive the richness of a medium that many of us are using less and less.
From August 31 to September 4, between 10:00 and 17:00, GLORIÆ Gallery in Craiova will host a series of artistic activities centered on radio as a medium for artistic creation.
The artistic project „In the Blink of an Ear: Craiova Frequencies” draws inspiration from the city’s rich radio history. One hundred years ago, Craiova was home to one of Romania’s earliest radio broadcasts, transmitted by the “Association of Friends of Radiotelephony”. A century later, this week-long radio-art laboratory returns to that moment, not only to revisit the history of radio, but also to give radio its place back in our lives today.
During the lab, we will gather to build the simplest form of radio. We will then put our handmade radios to work: communicating, receiving and disrupting the accessible public spaces around us. Radio will become both a creative tool and an instrument of perception.
What do we hear and how do we hear through radio? What kinds of information do we receive about our surroundings? How does radio transform our presence in public space? How do we normally behave in public spaces? How do we feel when we are exposed to other people, buildings and traffic?
To explore these questions and to activate the essential relationship between body, sound, and space, which lies at the heart of radio as a medium, we will engage in a variety of exercises. We will practice deep listening, movement exercises and walks in which the ear becomes our primary sense organ.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 ”𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝗿”?
In the Blink of an Ear is an ongoing interdisciplinary project with a focus on sound that brings together people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and interests. Because it follows an open and collaborative structure, participants shape both the course of the activities and their content. The project is therefore built collectively, through everyone’s contributions. Each year, a different theme or medium is proposed as a working tool or guiding framework.

To apply, write us an email at blink@lim.li between the 17th of July and the 20th of August. There is no background knowledge required. First come, first served.

Andreea Vlăduț is an artist from Romania, based in Linz, Austria. She graduated from the Time-based Media program at Kunstuniversität Linz, where she specialized in electronic music, audio-video installations, and performance art. Her works explore the relationship between sound, space, and matter, questioning what we can express through everyday elements and acoustic phenomena.
Cyrill Lim (b. 1984, Zug, Switzerland) is a visual artist, performer, and sound artist. His activities take him throughout Europe, and the projects he develops exist somewhere between music and theatre, art and research, an accumulation of means of expression, and social context. Furthermore, his works are concerned with the theme of perception and the ways in which different media shape the experience of space, sound, and materiality.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿?
Participation in the laboratory is free of charge. More than that, we offer compensation for participation as well as meals during the day. Between 10:00 and 17:00, there will be a one-hour lunch break. In addition, there will be a 10-minute break every hour, or whenever needed.
